Re: airport explosive detection systems
I believe some of the newer units are using neutron sources. Dr.
Anghaie in the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of
Florida may have some good information in this area. I believe a
recent project was detecting landmines from backscattered photons. I
would certainly think the principles are the same.
The phone number to the Nuclear Eng. Dept. is 352-392-1401.

Hello everyone,
I had a question from an employee involving new airport detection
systems designed to detect explosives. Apparently these detectors use
gamma radiation. The questions put to me were: How do these detectors
work? How do the gamma rays aid in detecting explosives? Any info on
these questions would be appreciated! Thanks.
