Re: Nitrogen in explosives 14N(n,p) at thermal E
The 14N(n,p) reaction has a 1.7 barn cross section at thermal neutron
energies and a Q value of 0.626 MeV. Unrelated comment: it is one of the
processes by which a significant dose is delivered to soft tissue by
thermal neutrons. By contrast, the capture cross section of 14N at thermal
energies is about 75 mbarn. Looking at nuclear data tables the 10.8 MeV
gamma seems to come from a 15N excited state.
