Beta Counters

To Users of Windowless Proportional Counters:

We use our Nuclear Chicago windowless proportional counter extensively. We
also have a modern LSC and access to Li(Ge) spectroscopy, but for most of
our uses, the proportional counter serves best. Probably averaging 5-6
hours use per day for the last 25 years, it must be approaching the end of
its useful life since replacement parts are not readily available. We
have funds for a new counter, and by our standards, this is a large
investment.

If you use a windowless proportional counter, I would appreciate it if
you could give me the benefit of your experience by evaluating your
counter. Ideally, we would like to stack up, or whatever, 50 wipes or so,
and let the machine run in the proportional windowless mode with some
computer interface for recording data.

Thanks
John
