Light Sensitive GM Tube -Reply

What the heck, let me speculate on something I know very little about.

It might be pulse production due to UV interactions in the detector
cathode.  The quenching agent might finally have been depleted. This
would suggest that the tube uses an organic quench. In any event,  I'd
buy a new tube.
