Radiation Protection Repositories/Old Journals

Good Day Radsafers:

I found an interesting piece of information at the HPS web site,

http://www.usii.net/hps/ , specifically HPS Collections.

Newell Stannard has put together a listing of repositories of
Radiation Protection/ Health Physics information.

Newell indicates: "Now beyond its fortieth year, the Health Physics Society
feels and has responded to the need to document and preserve its
origins and development. A good start has been made but the collections are
disparate and only loosely coordinated.
...
the Historian attempts to provide the membership with a summary of what is
available, where it is, and whom to contact. ..."

In addition, Newell indicates
" do not destroy your journal collections. There are institutions that want them,
including many in third world countries. For example, the International
Organization for Medical Physics Libraries Program has a well organized
program for sending journals and books far and wide. It selects the institutions
and pays shipping expenses. Contact Catherine Wormelink, Curator, at
Gerhenson Radiation Oncology Center, Harper Hospital and Wayne State
University, 3990 John R. Street, Detroit , MI 48201, telephone 313-745-2522,
 FAX 313-745-2314."

So if 'ya got a minute and a passing interest, crank up
http://www.usii.net/hps/ HPS Collections and peruse the
information and perhaps contact Cathrine at Wayne State about any
"old" journals you would like to share with colleagues in the third world.

Thanks.
