NPP Sabotage Revisited
Hello All,
Just a final recap on the gluing incident that occurred at the St. Lucie NPP.
After the investigation, it was found that glued locks and the glued
switches in the auxilliary control room incidences happened at the same time
not a few weeks apart that was reported earlier. FPL officials, after an
extensive investigation, has narrowed the possible suspects to ten
non-employee contract workers though no one individual or individuals has
been charged. The NRC cited FPL for two violations one being that it took
too long for FPL to formally notify the NRC of the aforementioned gluing
incidence(s) and the other other violation was that critical valve keys were
found in an unlocked cubicle.
Now for a new one. Mechanics at the Crystal River NPP found a penny lodged
in an oil pipe. This pipe, according to the paper, carries oil to a fan
that cools one of the emergency generators. "The generators, used in the
event of a blackout, power pumps that can flood the reactor with water if
needed to keep it cool and avoid a meltdown"
The last part of the above statement is a direct quote from the newspaper as
I am unsure which power supplies and what pumps they are referring to as I
have never heard oil be used as part of a generator air cooler. Could be
referring to the emergency core cooling pumps (ECC pumps).
So how was your weekend?
