I'm not really sure about this one but, as I understand it, Geiger and
Rutherford's invention of the Geiger counter around 1908 permitted a
more accurate measurement of the charge on an alpha particle
and electron(e).  The improved measurement of e then permitted, at least
for a while, a better estimate of avagadro's number. That's for the "Not
that anyone cares department"
