hospital film badges
In a hospital setting there is typically a large number of
employees, and perhaps less than a clear definition about who
"should" wear a film badge. I would like to know what the
radsafe group recommends about who should wear a badge in this
setting.
I know that 10CFR20 says that individual monitoring is required
if the employee is likely to receive, in one year, 10% of the
limit. I think, however, that the normal standard of practice
goes beyond this. I believe that most hospitals badge x-ray
technologists and assistants who work in a radiation area daily,
even though it may be _very_unlikely_ that they will receive 10%
of the legal limit.
I want to apply a consistent standard and the question comes up
with regard to someone like a respiratory technologist who is
called to attend a patient in a fluoroscopy room "occaisionally".
Should the respiratory tech wear a film badge if they are in a
radiation area once a week? twice a week? once a month? It
would help to know if there is any consensus among other
institutions on this issue.
