Re[2]: HP Certification - Study is Key
I took the Part1 exam and passed, but found it to be much more
difficult than the preparatory class and study materials.
I studied on my own in addition to the materials that I received, but
feel that the preparatory class gave a false sense of security or was
misleading when compared to the true difficulty of the exam. It would
have certainly been better if the prep class and study materials were
more difficult than the actual exam. If prep classes were always more
difficult than the actual exam, the passing percentage would certainly
increase, because persons would be slightly over-prepared.
As far as time spent studying, I think any teacher will tell you that
what is most important is not how much time is spent studying, but
rather the quality of the studying.
I know others that attended the training that I did feel the same way.
I wonder if others have had the same experience.

With the 1995 exam results trending lower than usual, the American Board of
Health Physics sent out a questionnaire requesting feedback from the
candidates who took the exam. Analyses of the results showed that there was
no apparent correlation between taking a prep. course and passing and also no
apparent correlation between educational level (beyond the bachelors degree)
with passing
The questionnaire showed that the only positive correlation with passing the
exam occured with the estimated time spent studying. T
This finding gives credence to Charlie Willis' advice to study, study,
study....

You didn't mention if grades for both part 1 and part 2 were down.
Part 1 is divided into several catagories. It might be constructive
to know if only certain of those catagories scored lower and also if
lower scores were made on part 1 as opposed to part 2 or vice versa.
