Re: Dose from dental x-ray

The effective dose equivalents reported to this group this week were
derived from organ doses generated by a Monte Carlo simulation of
photon transport. The program accounted for primary and scattered
radiation, but not leakage. It was written locally since there was
nothing available at the time we started that could account for the
complex inhomogeneities in the face. We provided that by using a 3D
array of voxels derived from serial CT scans as phantom anatomy. We
continue to refine the model--this is one of those projects that is
never finished. We are just now getting appropriate hardware. A job
that ran days on our 1980 low-level VAX runs minutes on my P166.

I second your plea for e-mail addresses in signature blocks. I
further plead for signature blocks. My reader (I am forced by the
local system to use Lotus cc:Mail) strips sender information from most
     but not all listserver output.
