Biodegradeable LSC Cocktails

Our researchers are required to use LSC cocktails with flashpoints
above 140 degrees F. Our radioactive waste broker does not
have a hazardous waste permit in New Jersey and can not transport
hazardous wastes, so we made the change several years ago to
accomodate our broker. None of our researchers ever complained about
being required to use the higher flashpoint cocktails.

We do not allow drain disposal of the "biodegradeable cocktails" for
two reasons: 1) we're highly suspicious of the manufacturers'
claims that the materials are environmentally innocuous (we haven't
thoroughly researched this but have heard some arguments that the
materials are not as nontoxic as claimed) , and 2) it's still relatively
cheap to send LSC wastes off for disposal at Permafix.
