The Massachusetts Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Board announces its intention to hire an Environmental Analyst I for the Board's staff.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Analyst I will be hired by the Board's Executive Director and will serve at the pleasure of said director and the Board.

The Environmental Analyst I will perform technical and scientific duties relating to low-level radioactive waste management.

Responsibilities of the Environmental Analyst I shall include:

1. Preparing and reviewing scientific reports, studies and analytical data, including those associated with the development of facilities for low-level radioactive waste storage, treatment and disposal, and those associated with the characterization of low-level radioactive waste.

2. Writing technical or general reports, memoranda, and letters concerning the technical activities of the Board to provide information and make recommendations regarding technical matters relating to the anagement of low-level radioactive waste.

3. Performing calculations relating to low-level radioactive waste management using calculators, computers or other instruments.

4. Analyzing changes in scope of work for project contracts to recommend corrective action.

5. Recommending modifications to plans, specifications, and engineering agreements.

6. Reviewing contract documents for accuracy, completeness and content, and for compliance with governing laws, rules and regulations.

7. Responding to inquiries of a technical or scientific nature from persons or organizations interested in Board activities and provides technical or scientific responses which assist in explaining Board operations.

8. Using IBM-compatible personal computers and associated software such as spreadsheets, databases and wordprocessing for analyzing and compiling technical and/or scientific data to prepare reports and correspondence, and provide telephone responses and other communications.

9. Performing related duties such as collecting, compiling, correlating and analyzing engineering and environmental data relating to radioactivity, low-level radioactive waste, the environment and public health; reading industry publications and meeting with industry representatives to keep abreast of the latest technical advances; making site visits to organizations authorized to use radioactive materials; maintaining records; providing technical advice; and attending meetings and conferences.

10. Assisting in the review of regulations and reports pertaining to radiation control, environmental health and environmental management.
