Hi Radsafers,

The problem as I see it is that it is almost impossible to train a worker to
accept the true reality of radiation risk in any normal type of training
program. Many, but not all, come into the training seminar with so much
misinformation that no matter what you say in the 1, 2, or whatever hours
allotted to introductory training, little will be understood against the myths
of rad. risks.

I dare say, think back to when you were "exposed" to your first radiation
training. How long did it take for you to become confortable with radiation
risks?

My first job was picking up H-3 and C-14 (primarily) in 55 gal waste drums from
research labs. I remember my first day vividly, I was tingling all over from
psycho-perceived scintillations all over my body. I still remember that fear
when I teach others. With the misinformation that's out there, it's a wonder to
me that we convince anyone!

It was only when I took personal responsiblity to investigate the facts for
myself that I understood the risks and developed a perspective. Few workers
other, than professional H.P. types will take the time to convince themselves of
the reality of rad. risks.

If we, who are nuclear workers, can't understand what we are working
with, how do we expect the general public to?
