Mixed Waste
Good morning, Radsafers.
I'd like to direct my question to my California colleagues. How are you
handling your mixed wastes? Have you ever been hassled by the haz waste
regulators about storing the hazardous portion of the mixed waste for
longer than 90 days? We recently decommissioned a Van de Graff
accelerator and have generated some mixed waste. We're exploring the
disposal options for the MW and may end up holding it past the 90 day
limit before we find a place to dispose of it. We'd really like to
recycle it if we could, so if any of you know a company that can
separate tritium from mercury and recycle the mercury please email me.
But, if you know of a disposal firm that would take the tritiated
mercury, I'd like to know that too.
Thank you in advance.
