RE: Could a human survive on D2O?

I do not remember the month or year but in Scientific American there 
was an article about D2O. The magazine cover I remember very well. It 
had several Petri dishes with algea growing in H2O and mixtures of 
H2O and D2O and  finally pure D20. The algea did not grow very well in the 
pure D20. The reason was due to the mass effect as I recall with D 
being 100% heavier. 
Sorry I do not remember the year and month but the article was in 
Scientific American.
