Am241 smoke detectors

Jay,

The source of Am241 is most of the time americium oxide (Am2O3) which is
mixed with enamel and plated sometimes with a 2 micrometers thick protection
layer of
tantalum.
There is no reason to suspect Pu241 contamination since it is americium
oxide which is used. Activity ranges from 0.9uCi to 100 uCi as far as
european market is concerned.
