POSITION DESCRIPTION for
RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER(RSO)/ DEPUTY
RSO
REQUIREMENTS:
* BS/MS in Radiological Health Physics.
* 5 + years experience in a biomedical
research & development, hospital or academic
environment; willing to consider less years of
experience in lieu of higher education.
* Must be familiar with operations and details
of a broad scope, diverse radiation safety
program involving the use of by-products
materials, NARM and radiation-producing devices.
* Particular knowledge and experience in
preclinical (animal) research and nuclear
medicine-type applications, as well as
radiation-producing devices is a plus.
* Must possess strong communication skills,
both oral and written, and present effective safety
training seminars.
* Additional knowledge and experience in
other areas of Environmental Health and Safety
(biosafety and chemical safety) is highly desirable.
* Must be willing to assume other
Environmental Health & Safety duties and
responsibilities beyond the radiation safety
program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manage and implement all aspects of the
company's radiation safety program in
accordance with licenses, permits and
Massachusetts Agreement State regulations.
* Supervise radiation safety technicians.
* Manage vendor relationships/contracts for
radioactive material purchases, personnel
dosimetry, supplies and radioactive waste.
* Chair the Radiation Safety Committee.
* Provide general and specialized radiation
safety training to research staff.
