What kind of irradiator do you have?  We have a Shepherd Mark I. 
To keep samples cool,  we pack them in dry ice.  The irradiator
has a 6 Ci Cs-137 source.  We do not see any significant melting
of the dry ice during the irradiation, except for normal 
sublimation.  We did some dosimetry on the geometry with the dry ice to calculate how much extra time we would have to 
irradiate the sample due to attenuation by the dry ice.
