Description: Non-tenure-track position for a faculty member in the
Health Physics Program, Department of Physics.  This is a special,
contract-funded position that supports an oversight program of the State
of Idaho.  The contract is in place and extends through June 30, 1998;
renewal is anticipated.  Customary employee benefits and leave are
provided for this year-around position which is located in Idaho Falls,
Idaho, 50 miles from the University.  The successful candidate will also
be expected to perform occasional teaching duties in the Idaho State
University Health Physics Program and may direct student summer
internships or student research and be involved in graduate student
committees.  

The successful candidate will participate in evaluating impacts of
present and future operations of the Idaho National Engineering and
Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) on populations and environment,
radiological transportation risk assessment, radiological emergency
response, and other radiological oversight issues and serve as liaison
between the State of Idaho and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Responsibilities include evaluation of existing and potential radiological
protection programs such as (1) air and water quality monitoring systems,
(2) historical and currently collected radiological surveillance data, (3)
quality assurance programs and plans, technical assessment standards,
methodology and measurement standards, (4)  Idaho's Worker Health and
Safety Radiological Monitoring Program.   He/she will participate in the
planning and direction of professional and educational seminars, and shall
participate in public meetings, hearings, seminars, and faculty events as
time permits.

The basic position requirement is an earned doctorate in Health
Physics, or a closely related discipline and at least five years of
relevant experience.  Exceptionally well-qualified candidates with a
master's degree may be considered.  Preferred experience includes
transportation and fixed facility risk assessment, NRC regulation, State
radiation regulation, and  environmental surveillance.  Certification or
eligibility for certification by the American Board of Health Physics is
desirable.  The appointment will be made at an appropriate academic rank,
depending upon qualifications.  Salary for the position is negotiable.
