Pocket Ion Chambers and Film
In the early days of the Atomic Energy Commission, many facilities
utilized
Pocket Ion Chambers to assign radiation dose to personnel. Two of these
devices were often issued to workers and the lowest measurement assigned
as the absorbed radiation dose to the worker.
Radiation Sensitive Film was later used to discriminate the energies of
the
incident radiation and assign radiation dose. Pocket Ion Chambers were
often used with Film and the records of these measurements have been
archived.
DISCUSSION:________________________________________________
How appropriate is it to use dose estimates from Pocket Ion Chambers and
compare/add their readings to Film dosimeter measurements?
A very interesting approach is described in a paper by,
Watkins et al , March 1997, Applied Occupational and Environmental
Hygiene
Volume 12(3), Pg. 195.
"Collection, Validation, and Treatment of Data for a Mortality Study of
Nuclear
Industry Workers"
I would appreciate your insight on this topic.
