HP labor trends [was Re: Southern California position addendum]

Hi all,

The URL for the last ORISE HP labor report is:

http://www.sph.umich.edu/group/eih/UMSCHPS/labor.htm

know that it was completed in August 1995. A newer one will be out
hopefully this fall. Salaries have probably not gone up since the report
was issued [opinion], and knowing a few students (and myself) in the
job market of recent, I would estimate that the starting salary is between
$38K-48K for entry level HPs with MSs, $28K-37K for HPs with BSs.

Of course, this is *very* dependent on where you wish to live, cost of
living and benefits, not to mention prior experience, certification, etc.

As far as I can tell [opinion again], the job market is a little better
than it has been for sometime (years?), though many of the jobs have been
lower paying than in the past (market demand and supply). At the HP annual
meeting, I counted 62 resumes, and 27 job postings. Several of the resumes
though were people with jobs out "fishing", and two of the job postings
were post-doc positions (NOTE: un-offical counts based on my memory....)

Our on-line job listing is at:
