Health Physics Technician in Southern California

An experienced health physics technician is needed immediately for a
contract position at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). This
temporary position will be part-time (~32 hours/week) to start and may
become full-time. Funding is anticipated through at least mid-January
1998.

About half of the duties will involve providing radiation safety
services to a small radiopharmaceutical production facility and
associated PET clinic, including monitoring radiopharmaceutical
shipments, certifying DOT dangerous goods shipping documents, and
driving vehicles containing Yellow II/III labeled packages of
radioactive materials. The other half of the duties will be monitoring
biomedical research laboratories, calibrating instruments, and other
typical radiation safety functions on campus.

This position involves variable starting times (several days per week at
4:30 a.m.). We are looking for someone with several years experience as
a health physics technician who has (or will be able to obtain), a
California driver's license with a hazardous materials endorsement, and
be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Experience measuring higher level
radiation fields (up to ~500 mrem/h) and preparing DOT dangerous goods
certification forms is a plus.
