Re: Why nuclear is a "no-win" in the USA

Mr. Goodgame:
You've asked a deliciously pointed question which has yet to be answered
appropriately. Why in fact should society be asked to spend $220 billion
chasing small risks, when much larger ones are observed everyday. Part of the
answer lies at the feet of those scientists and critics who contend that
radiation is harmful at all levels above zero. Another part is with the
observation that billions are to be made by companies "helping" DOE "protect"
the public from such mythical harm. Another part is in the bureaucracies such
as EPA, DOE, and the states who have convinced themselves that they are somehow
contributing to improving public health, when if fact, they are not. Larger
EPA/DOE budgets also mean larger salaries, staff, and self-importance. Another
are the media who have a natural fear-generating machine producing weekly scare
stories, keeping revenues up. Always remember that freedom of the press begins
at the cash register.
In short there is no lobby for common sense in Washington D. C. or in the
states.
