 Reporting Date: as soon as possible --  Duty Station: Seibersdorf and Vienna
 Type of Appointment: Fixed-term Duration of Appointment: Three years
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

                         
To be responsible for the Agency's Dosimetry Laboratory which acts as the
central laboratory of the International Network of Secondary Standard
Dosimetry Laboratories (SSDLs), of the IAEA/WHO TLD postal dosimetry service
and of the IDAS/ESR Industrial Dosimetry programme for Member States. The
Laboratory is equipped with a Co-60 unit, two X-ray generators and the
necessary instrumentation for calibration of therapy and protection level
dosimeters and dose intercomparisons at therapy and industrial dose levels.
It is located at Seibersdorf near Vienna. 

In particular 

To be responsible for the administration and quality assurance of the
Laboratory activities, coordinating the activities of the staff for
implementing the Agency's Dosimetry Programme;
To operate and administer the IAEA/WHO TLD postal dosimetry service for
Radiotherapy Centre in Co-60 and high-energy photon and electron beams; To
implement new dosimetry techniques in the Laboratory according to the
highest international metrological standards; if necessary, develop
ancillary equipment for the Laboratory and SSDLs to implement these
techniques; To organize intercomparisons with SSDLs and the participation of
the Agency's Laboratory in intercomparions with the BIPM and PSDLs;
To participate in the training of staff of SSDLs in dosimetry techniques; To
act as Technical Officer for the Agency's Research and technical contracts,
fellowships and technical cooperation projects in the field of medical
physics and dosimetry; To organize meetings with consultants and advisory
groups, writing reports and keep updated knowledge on new developments in
dosimetry; All the non-administrative duties at the Laboratory are performed
in collaboration with other Project Officers of the Section. 

NOTE: Applicants may be exposed, in the performance of their work, to
radiation or radioactive substances and will be submitted to an appropriate
monitoring
programme, according to the Agency's Radiation Protection Rules and Procedures. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Essential: Ph.D. or equivalent university degree in physics with at least 10
years of practical experience in the field of radiation dosimetry. From
these, at least 5 years are required in a Standard Dosimetry Laboratory
(direct responsibility in supporting Radiotherapy Centres) or as a
Radiotherapy Hospital Physicist. Knowledge of human resources and financial
management and ability to apply this knowledge in managing assigned
resources. Experience in high-accuracy experimental methods with ionization
chamber and TLD dosimetry at therapy and protection levels. Experience in
administration and organization of effective teams. Ability to set
objectives and to communicate these clearly, to provide feedback and to
encourage staff development. 

Desirable: Good background in radiotherapy physics to external radiotherapy and
brachytherapy. Good knowledge of computerized methods for evaluation methods
of data.
Research management. 

Languages: Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of French, Russian or
Spanish is highly desirable. 


Remuneration is quoted in annual amounts in US $ and is deemed to be exempt
from National Income Tax.
