NRC Web Site Gets a face Lift and New Content.
NRC WEB SITE GETS A FACE LIFT AND NEW CONTENT
Please visit the Agency#s upgraded public Web site. It has a new look, new
contents, and new features. We#ve changed the home page from a text menu
format to a graphic format to make it easier for the public to identify
program areas quickly. For consistency, the main page for each program area
has the same look and includes a site table of contents for the major
programs that allows users to reach them without having to return to the
home page first. The home page features a "What#s New" link to show newly
added content.
The site also includes upgraded navigational aids to help locate
information. A new search engine has been added that permits users to fine
tune their word and phrase searches by targeting specific pages, documents,
classes of documents, or the entire site. Search results are displayed in
order of relevance and include links to a document or to the exact lines in
a document where matches have been found.
A reference Library has been added to provide access to significant NRC
documents and reference materials. The complete two-volume Title 10 of the
Code of Federal Regulations is now part of the reference library. The
regulations will be updated periodically as changes are made. Other
Reference Library documents for viewing on the web site or for downloading
include:
# Transcripts of Commission meetings from 1991 to date.
# NRC Information Digest, 1997 edition
# General audience brochures on radioactive waste and use of radioactive
materials
# Technical NRC documents on such topics as dry cask storage of spent
fuel; equipment testing at nuclear power plants; and portable gauges
containing radiation sources.
Another addition to the Web site is a School Programs page which will
feature information of use for teachers and students. It includes a
glossary of nuclear power and radiation terms.
The NRC site continues to offer current information on NRC regulatory
activities.
# NRC news releases and speeches
# Nuclear power plant status, events reported by NRC licensees, and NRC
daily staff reports
# Inforcement actions
# Weekly Information Report from the staff to the Commission
# NRC Commission, Advisory Committee, and staff meetings open to the
public
# Preliminary notifications (staff reports of items of NRC interest)
# Selected regulatory documents and reports
# Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance reports --issued every
18-24 months on the NRC#s review of the performance of each operating
nuclear power station.
