Position Announcement - Radiation Safety Officer



Due to the promotion of the current RSO, the Diagnostics Division of Abbott
Laboratories (ADD) has an opening for a new RSO.  ADD manufactures and
distributes in vitro diagnostic products and accessories employed in
hospitals and private clinical laboratories throughout the world.  ADD has
established itself as a leader in the hepatitis testing market as well as
other segments of the diagnostic industry that includes:  thyroid, cancer,
microbiology, cardiovascular, infectious diseases, blood glucose, pregnancy,
and clinical chemistry products.  One of the product lines is the manufacture
and distribution of radioimmunoassay kits.  ADD also performs research and
development activities.

The RSO should expect to perform, at a minimum the following duties:

Protect the health of employees, the public and the environment from sources
of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation through the execution of a
comprehensive radiation program.  Evaluate and control of radiological
hazards present in manufacturing and R&D environments for all ADD
facilities.  Ensure compliance with appropriate local, state, federal, and
global regulations.  Directly manage 1 exempt and 3 non-exempt employees.
Indirectly manage the facility radiation safety officers in all ADD
facilities worldwide.  Serve as the Division expert and Radiation Safety
Officer for all issues related to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

Experience Requirements:

MS Health Physics or equivalent experience with sources of ionizing radiation
in an industrial setting.  Seven plus years experience in the execution of a
broad scope license that includes the manufacturing and distribution of
products containing sources of radioactive material.  At least two years in
the management of a Radiation Safety Office is highly desirable.  Experience
with non-ionizing radiation is highly desirable.
