In California, the two primary methods for disposing of this waste are via
the sanitary sewer system, within the concentration limits set forth in title
10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, part 20, which was adopted in full in
the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 30253. Or, by decaying
solid waste in storage. Decaying the waste in storage requires (by license
commitment) that the licensee store the waste for a certain amount of time,
then survey it with an appropriate instrument to ensure it has decayed to
approximately background levels, after which it may be disposed of without
regard to its radioactivity. Other Agreement States may do things
differently. The best answer in your case will come from the regulatory body
which oversees this material.
