LANL environmental statement
Los Alamos just came out with their report titled "Environmental
Surveillance and Compliance at Los Alamos during 1996" and I have
only had the time to skim through the summary of it. But, I thought
you might like to know that after it estimated the maximum exposure
to any individual to be 13.3 mrem it made the following statement
under the heading "risk":
"In March 1996, the Health Physics Society noted
that health effects (primarily cancer) from radiation
exposure are observed in humans only at doses in
excess of 10 rem delivered at high dose rates.
The risk of cancer mortality for every United States
resident is one chance in five. The added risk to
any individual of cancer mortality caused by
Laboratory operations is negligible."
