LLW spill closes I-5 in S. Calif.

I'll bet that the most hazardous material in this accident was the
gasoline that spilled!!!! But it DOES make good headlines! Glad I
don't have to get on I-5, BUT, it did affect my trip home tonight...
Just love these over-reactions ... bet the pictures on TV will be a
blast!

ORANGE, Calif., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A hazardous materials team is
cleaning up a stretch of Interstate 5, just south of Los Angeles,
where a big rig overturned and dumped low-level radioactive materials
and medical bio-waste onto the highway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Richardson says the closure of
I-5 southbound lanes in Orange County has backed up traffic for 10
miles, and clean-up teams should keep the freeway shut down for
another four hours.
The northbound lanes were still open and police were funneling
southbound traffic off the freeway during rush hour using the nearby
State College exit.
Richardson says the big rig collided with a car about 2 p.m. today,
sending the vehicles' two drivers and a passenger to area hospitals.
Their conditions were not immediately available.
The hazardous material was being transported in sealed containers
found inside the trailer, but Richardson said he did not know whether
they had ruptured in the crash.
