Re: lantern mantles

I do not know the typical quantity ot Th-232 contained in one mantle.

I have, however, taken two separate readings on two mantles. The
     results are:

Ludlum Model 2 with HP-270 beta window closed: 0.8 mR/hr contact
Ludlum Model 3 with 43-5 probe: 16 kcpm contact
        Eberline E-140 with HP-210: 16 kcpm contact

Dear Radsafe:

Does anyone happen to know what the typical quantity (mg, uCi, whatever)

of Th-232 is contained in one of the Coleman lantern mantles
that used to contain thorium? What is a typical exposure rate
on contact with one?
