Ditto here.

I believe that is important to maintain fair and vigorous debate (and a
tolerant and open mind) on apparently controversial issues.  There is positive
perspective to be drawn, even from the most disagreeable viewpoints of one's
perceived opponents on an issue.  The strongest arguments will, ultimately,
stand for themselves.

It is far too easy to find oneself sliding down the same slippery (name
calling) slope as one's opponents.
