State's Quartely Dose Limits????
I received the following letter from an individual stating that there
are states that still regulate based on quarterly limits. This was
news to me. I was under the impression that all states adopted the
annual regulatory limits as found in 10CFR20, effective January 1,
1994. I would be interested in knowing which states still regulate on
quarterly limits and not on the annual limits.
Thanks for any information...
>With due respect, may I remind you that the quarterly regulatory
limits are set by STATE regulation, whereas the annual limits are
applicable only to federally regulated activities, under the control
of the NRC, such as nuclear medicine. In most cases, the high
readings are due to x-ray exposure, hence under state regulation. I
cannot comment on the situation elsewhere, but in our (non-agreement)
state, we are subject to a 1.25 rem limit per quarter.<
