MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
< Bachelor's degree form an accredited college or university (Copy of Official Transcript Attached to Application Required) with twenty semester hours in a natural or physical science, advanced mathematics*, health physics, or radiological science, plus six years of full-time experience performing health physics or radiological control functions.
< OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university (Copy of Official Transcript Attached to Application Required) with a major in a natural or physical science, mathematics, health physics, or radiological science, plus four years of full-time experience as above.
< OR Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university (Copy of Official Transcript Attached to Application Required) with a major in a natural or physical science, mathematics, health physics, or radiological science, plus two years of full-time experience as above.
< OR Registration as a Professional Engineer in Texas (Copy of Registration Attached to Application Required), plus two years of full-time experience as a Registered Professional Engineer, performing health physics or radiological control functions.
< OR One year of full-time experience as a Health Physicist IV.
< OR Current certification by the American Board of Health Physics as a Certified Health Physicist (CHP) (Copy of Certification Attached to Application Required).
< Evidence of having passed Part I of the Certified Health Physicist (CHP) examination (Copy of Evidence Attached to Application Required) may be substituted for the specialized semester hours.
< *Advanced college level mathematics does not include courses in freshman level algebra, business or educational mathematics, or remedial mathematics. A maximum of six semester hours of statistics may be used towards the specialized semester hours required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
< Requires moving 30 pounds of equipment.
< Potential exposure to ionizing radiation.
< Requires traveling 25% of the time with some overnight stays.
< Must be able to provide own transportation. Individual performing driving duties, must possess a valid class C or above driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance and/or a driving record which meets current agency auto liability insurance requirements.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: Completes highly responsible technical and administrative functions in the radioactive material programs of the Industrial & Hazardous Waste (I&HW) Division of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
< Develops guidance documents, technical reports, rules, and correspondence to ensure the adequacy and compatibility of radioactive material licensing and inspection in the radiation control program.
< Conducts field radiological environmental investigations, which may include sampling and evaluation/reporting on laboratory data results; reviews compliance/non-compliance issues, and coordinates enforcement actions.
< Provides expertise in the areas of health physics and the environment for the staff and the public in relation to regulatory licensing and inspection matters.
< Participates in work groups and committees for nuclear program development and implementation.
< Provides expert testimony, technical presentations, and lectures for public information on radioactive materials in the environment.
