If you don't like the idea of 10,000 volts on furniture surfaces, an
alternative is to turn your basement into a raquetball court.  The ball
develops an electrostatic charge, and collects radon daughters as it
traverses the room.  I believe this phenomenon was first reported at Los
Alamos.
