RE(2)>Y-90 Medical Use

        Reply to: RE(2)>Y-90 Medical Use

P.S. - OOPS!!! I almost forgot, its also used in a colloidal solution to treat cysts located in the brain or other sites. This is primarily used in Europe and I imagine in Canada considering the recent news, but is not commonly used to my knowledge here in the U.S. of A. We commonly use P-32 colloid for the same purpose, but it is somewhat inferior to Y-90 with respect to beta depth dose and half life characteristics. - Mike Bohan

Ken and RadSafe,

I understand that Y-90 is being evaluated as a source for intravascular brachytherapy. Also, Ken, you might want to check out 10 CFR 35. The patient release limits changed recently and the 30 mCi or 5 mR/hr @ 1 meter rule no longer is applicable.

On a separate subject, I would appreciate some information regarding the use of Y-90
as a radiopharmaceutical for diagnostic or theraputic uses. I am not familiar with its
use in medicine. I will agree that it has been a considerable time, more that 10 years,
since I was involved in Nuclear Medicine but I still enjoy the subject. Thanks in
advance.

Usual dislaimers, the comments are mine and not those of the agency.
