Re: Dose Calib. Geometry Daily! HELP!

Mobile settings for use of dose calibrators is a rather unique situation. I
doubt you will find many individuals with a similar experience. In Illinois
most mobile nuc med operations opt for having a calibrator at each location
they service. Still, you are in an interesting position of being able to be
a significant data point for the manufacturer of your calibrator. If you
are indeed performing a geometry check each day of use, you may be able to
justify to your regulatory agency that you merit an exemption from the
standard regulations which require such a check based on the reproducibility
of your data under the various transport conditions. To the agency's
credit, they may insist that you still run a geometry check on a set
frequency (presumably something like quarterly, semi-annually or annually
depending on the justification you provide) to ensure there is indeed no
changes in the calibration chamber. You may also want to look to the
manufacturer for some type of prototype testing of the calibration unit.
Shaker tables, and short distance drop tests to simulate typical road
conditions (ignoring Illinois tremendous pot hole situation) could go a long
way in substantiating your request for the relief from the regulation with
some type of caveat that a full test would be done in the event an accuracy,
reproducibility or other test indicator show a significant (>10%) variance.

Of course, just my opinion.
