Re: Status of NRC/EPA 25 vs 15 mrem criteria

The NRC codified the 25 mrem rule last year (62 FR 9058).

EPA has published a statement calling the NRC rule "not protective of
the public health." Check out OSWER directive 9200.4-18 available on
the epa web site .... follow links to the marssim page.

not sure what ever happened to the epa's 15 mrem rule .. thought it
was withdrawn... anyone have some insite?

Does anyone in radsafe land know if the EPA and NRC have kissed and made up
over their respective approaches to unrestricted release criteria ? Has the
issuance of Marrsim done anything to cause a consensus to be reached between
the two agencies and if not is there any time expectation for resolution ?

Am I correct in assuming that both of their proposed criteria are exactly
that - "proposals" and neither has any real statutory authority except for
the 4 mrem water limit ?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on current situation.
