My understanding is, that the UNION is not concerned with radiation
science. They are however have to be concerned with the safety of their
members at their work places. They are not self-appointed experts since
they don't make statements as expersts on radiation safety , they merely
repeat the advice of experts they sought. And they got it from our valued
collegues Prof. Kohnlein et al. who are cited in German newspapers claiming
neutron doses currently being strongly underestimated in biological
effectiveness.

Last year during Castor transports to Gorleben policemen got equipped with
neutron dosemeters of the albedo type by a renowned German dosimetry
service. It happened that the union asked the same dosimetry service to
provide them with neutron dosemeters to check the 'official' results. And
what were the results ? 1150 dosemeters being evaluated by this dosimetry
service none of them had a dose above 0.03 mSv (3 mrem west of Atlantic)
which happened to be the limit of detection for the sum of photon and
neutron dose.
