Radsafers:
The Health Physics Societies International Relations Committee is
organizing a special Health Physics/radiation safety study tour for
September, 1998. The trip will be paid for entirely by the participants at
a special group rate; this is an unsubsidized, non-profit project of the

ANNOUNCEMENT
Health Physics Society International Relations Committee
Radiation Safety Study Tour in Russia, September 9-23, 1998
As announced at the Mid Year Meeting in February, the International
Relations Committee is sponsoring a health physics study tour of radiation
protection and safety in Russia. The trip will be led by Past President
Marvin Goldman, a veteran traveler to the former Soviet Union. From
September 9 through September 23, 1998, participants will visit St.
Petersburg, Ekaterinburg and the Urals (Chelyabinsk), and Moscow.
Technical visits to nuclear centers and labs, radioecology and population
dose estimate facilities, nuclear reactors, health physics training centers
and emergency medical facilities will be combined with radiation-related
seminars and cultural programs.
There is a minimum requirement of 20 participants for this trip to occur.
However, due to logistical limitations, participation will be restricted to
about 30 people on a first-come basis. Approximate cost, including air and
ground travel, hotel, meals and cultural engagements, is $4,500. Exact
pricing is being negotiated.
Participants are also invited to remain for an additional three days, to
attend the Nuclear Facilities Radiation Shielding in Obninsk, near Moscow.
Cost for this would be additional.
