RSO Position at the University of Rochester



The University of Rochester, Rochester, New York is seeking to fill 
the position of Radiation Safety Officer.

The University is a nationally recognized graduate and undergraduate 
research university which includes Strong Memorial Hospital and the 
School of Medicine and Dentistry.  The University uses radioactive 
materials and x-ray generating devices for therapeutic and diagnostic 
medicine, and research. The University also has a major laser fusion 
facility.  The RSO will have responsibility for oversight of all 
activities involving ionizing radiation.  The RSO is expected to work 
directly with faculty, staff, and senior management of the 
University.  The RSO serves on the University's Radiation Safety 
Committee, and chairs the Radioactive Drug Research and 
Human Use of Radioactive Material Committees.

The RSO supervises a well trained and qualified staff of six, three 
technicians, one senior CHP, and two admin assts. This group is a 
real joy to work with, and are a real asset to the University and the 
RSO.

Some teaching is required, but compensation will be in addition to 
the base salary.  This is not a full time faculty position.

The successful candidate will have at least an MS in an appropriate 
discipline, and must be certified by the ABHP, ABMP, or
an equivalent certification.  A minimum of 5 years of experience is 
required, but 10 or more years of experience in radiation safety is 
preferred.  Previous supervisory experience is a plus. 
The position reports to a Director of EH&S.
