JOB OPENING - Laboratory Compliance Manager

Oakland University (approximate student head count of 14,000) is looking

for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Laboratory Compliance
Manager, in the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).  This
individual shall serve as Oakland University's (sole) "Radiation Safety
Officer", "Biosafety Officer" and "Chemical Hygiene Officer", thereby
providing hands-on assistance and consultation to academic/research
personnel, executing, monitoring and enforcing compliance programs
relating to chemical, biological and radiation safety in laboratories
(under the direction of the three corresponding Safety Committees and
the
Director of EH&S), and developing, coordinating and providing all
training
for associated compliance programs.

With regard to the RSO component of the position -- Oakland University's

current radiation usage is as follows: There are 20 Principal
Investigators who use radioisotopes (primarily P-32, H-3, RB-86
and C-14) on campus; Oakland University (OU) has a "limited"
broad-scope license to use 17 radionuclides, one (1) cobalt irradiator,
and four (4) x-ray/electron microscope facilities.

LOCATION: Oakland University is located in the suburb of Rochester
Hills, Michigan (approximately 30 miles north of Detroit).  Surrounding
property options include metropolitan, rural, lake-front or suburban.

REQUIREMENTS:  MS Degree in Health Physics, in addition to a strong
background (academic combined with experience) in Chemistry, Biology and

hazardous waste.  A minimum of 2 years experience working as an RSO, or
at least in a Radiation Safety Office (preferably in an academic
institution).  Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and
the
ability to work independently are an absolute must.  Extensive knowledge

and experience with word-processing, spread sheet and database programs
also required (PC preferred).  Those who have demonstrated the ability
to
work with a widely diverse group of individuals, and an understanding of

the role and mission of academic institutions will be given preference.

SALARY RANGE: $45,000 to $50,000
