The University of California, San Diego has a job opening for a Health
Physicist. The HP would join a Radiation Safety Group of nine individuals
who oversee and assist the campus in its research and patient care efforts.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must be available to work extended hours and respond to call-back. Valid CA Driver's license to operate UC vehicle. Must pass a medical examination and be cleared to wear respirators, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and personal protective clothing. REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated experience in identification, evaluation, and control of hazards associated with radioisotope handling, storage, transportation, use and/or disposal in a research university environment. Demonstrated knowledge of California Radiation Control Regulations, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and Department of Transportation regulations in regards to radioisotope and radiation issues. In depth knowledge of radioisotope measurement/analysis techniques; of external and internal radiation dose effects and principles; of dose investigations and re-constructions looking for causes and effect. Demonstrated oral communication skills to communicate effectively and easily with senior research staff and principal investigators and a variety of staff of differing backgrounds. Experience in communicating radiation safety principles and practices orally and in writing. Proficient computer skills to manipulate existing software and databases. Ability and willingness to respond to hazardous materials emergency situations and be part of a team that decontaminates a hazardous materials spill scene. PREFERRED: Demonstrated knowledge of x-ray machine and laser principles, monitoring and equipment corrective actions necessary to achieve compliance with regulatory agencies.<<<<
