There is a group of Solar Monitoring stations run by the US Air Force.  I
had the opportunity to visit one in Exmouth Western Australia.  11 stations
are maintained worldwide, continuously monitoring solar activity.  You
could probably visit one if it is nearby.  The Australian Radiation Lab
link provided in a previous message will probably point to it.
