cerium oxalate- what is its radioactive component?

In the process of cleaning out some old chemicals from a Pharmacy Lab we
ran across a couple of containers of cerium oxalate.  Using a survey
meter it was found to contain some radioactivity.  Is this a normal
occurrence?  Is there a naturally occurring radioactive component of
cerium?   The chemical disposal company would not take it for disposal.
