UCLA seeking HPs



UCLA Radiation Safety Office has two job openings for HPs.
Following are the details:

Job Title for both jobs: EH & S Safety Specialist II

Salary Range for both jobs: $3767 - $5650 per month

Job Description for Job Req. Number 8013:
Assure that UCLA's Radiation Safety Program is carried out throughout
the UCLA campus including the Center for Health Sciences as authorized
in UCLA's license according to the Radiation Protection Manual, State,
and Federal regulations.  Responsible for reviewing, issuing, and
renewing non-human use radiation-producing machine authorizations to
researchers on campus.  Review human-use research protocols involving
radiation-producing machines to ensure occupational and research
subject's safety, and suggest modifications to protocols in keeping with
license and regulatory requirements.  Manage and modify programs for
training of radiation machine workers.  Train radiation workers in
radiation safety methods.  Perform special assignments as directed by
the Radiation Safety Officer or his/her designee.  Participate in
department emergency response efforts.

Job Description for Job Req. Number 7943:
Assure that UCLA's Radiation Safety Program is carried out throughout
the UCLA campus including the Center for Health Sciences as authorized
in UCLA's license according to the Radiation Protection Manual, State,
and Federal regulations.  Responsible for reviewing, issuing, and
renewing non-human use radioisotope authorizations to primarily
molecular biology researchers on campus. Review research work involving
radioisotopes and suggest modifications to protocols in keeping with
license and regulatory requirements.  Manage and modify programs for
training of radioisotope workers. Train radiation workers in radiation
safety methods.  Perform special assignments as directed by the
Radiation Safety Officer or his/her designee.  Participate in department
emergency response efforts. 

Qualifications for both jobs:
Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering field and
two years of professional experience (using independent judgement to
interpret and apply regulations and policies, making technical decisions
and working without appreciable direction) in a radiation protection
program, OR Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific or
engineering field and five years of radiation safety technician
experience, OR Master's degree in health/medical physics, OR equivalent
combination of training and experience as determined by the Radiation
Safety Officer.  Working knowledge of radiation surveys, x-ray machines,
laboratory sample counting, spectrometry, shielding, effluent
monitoring.  Ability to recognize unsafe or off-standard conditions
which may adversely affect the radiation safety of approximately 3,000
workers in UCLA's program.  Skill in writing concise and grammatically
correct documents, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to give
effective oral presentations.
