Chernobyl questions
I need to put together some information for a report about current
radiological practices at Chernobyl. If anyone has visited the site
recently, or has fairly current information about the following topics,
please contact me at damschenga@mkf.ornl.gov unless you think the answers to
my questions would be of general information to the listserv. If requested,
I will post a summary to the listserv when the report is completed.
Questions:
1) Are internal and external dose limits established? If yes, how are they
monitored (e.g., film badge, TLD, bioassay)?
2) What are the limits for the different radiological control areas (e.g.,
radiation area, high radiation area, etc.). If the names for these areas are
different than in the US, what are the local names? (scanned files of any of
the signs would be a great visual aid here)
3) Are there exclusion / access control boundaries set up? If so, where are
they in relation to the site? I have heard, for example, that there is an
exclusion area set up ~30km from the site, but I have not been able to
confirm this.
4) Are there any unique radiological controls problems resulting from the
diverse groups working there (e.g., language or cultural barriers to
effective controls)?
If there are any other items that might be of interest that I have not asked
about, please include them in your replies.
Thanks,
Gary Damschen
