Nuclear Fuel Shipment Approaches

Nuclear Fuel Shipment Approaches - (CONCORD) July 21 -- United
States Coast Guard inspectors are waiting at the Concord
Naval Weapon Station for cargo ships carrying radioactive fuel
rods. The ship will be met by a trained inspection team to
ensure public safety. About 300 nuclear fuel rods are expected to
arrive... but authorities do not anticipate any problems. Five
shipments will enter the Bay Area over the next decade. A train
carrying the fuel rods may arrive in Sacramento as early as
today. The shipment was reportedly off the coast of San Francisco
last night. After arriving in the bay, the rods will be loaded
onto a train in Concord and shipped through northern California on
their way to Idaho. People who are concerned about the
shipment are expected to line the route in protest.
