Re: H3 liquid waste question

Shirley,

The first question is; Has someone declared this a waste or removed it from
the lab and is it now in your waste room?

If you answer yes to any part of that question then more than likely you
have a waste.

You cannot dispose of this material as a Hazardous Waste, because the
material is neither Scintillation or Animal waste. Below .05 uCi/gm only
applies to those two waste categories. Therefore it appears you have a true
mixed waste and have 90 days in which to dispose of the material. (CW is a
large generator)

Under Ohio laws, you can treat a mixed waste within 90 days of generation
without a permit. However most organic solvents used in research turnout to
be F listed wastes which cannot be treated to remove the F listing.

The cost of disposing of 30 gallons of this material should not cost much
more than the cost of a drum going for burial.
