The reactors in question are VVER-440 Soviet-design PWRs which have been
upgraded to come closer to Western safety criteria. There were originally 4
of these units under construction, but only Units 1 and 2 have been completed
todate; the others are intended to be completed as finances permit, although
Slovak government has stated its intent to rely thereafter on non-nuclear
energy sources for electricity generation.
