Re: TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENTS

i am responding on RADSAFE because this information miught be of use
to everyone. We keep a database called Radioactive Materials Incident
Report (RMIR). It is accessible via the we at
http://sandia.gov/Radtran/ or through the DOE NTP home page
http://www.ntp.doe.gov or, all esle failing, call Jim McClure at
505-845-8753. Here are some recent data:from RMIR

from 1971 to 1996, 2379 Type A packages were involved in
transportation accidents, and 219 (9%) of these released some
contents. In the same period, 90 Type B packages were in accidents
     and none released any contents.

Dear Radsafers:

Can anyone provide me with citations, a location where I can get citations, or
even actual information for transportation accidents wherein
approved/specification shipping containers were breached?

Thank you,

Bill Borden
